Simple Joy plays interesting music in an entertaining way. Carol Birchmore and Jim Johnston have been playing together for more than a decade. They have released a CD called “Believe in a Better World” which was nominated for a Jack Richardson award for best CD in 2009. Simple Joy itself has been nominated for several awards including best folk/roots band.
Simple Joy is known for some lovely familiar cover tunes played with delicate guitar work, exceptional harmonies, tasteful harmonica accents and a few shakers and tambourine! Songs such as Here Comes the Sun, Landslide, Rolling in the Deep and many more. You would also hear some well crafted tunes reflecting the roots and styling of such influences as James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles mixed with modern influences such as Adele and Twilight Hotel. Their self-titled “Simple Joy” is about the pure enjoyment of sharing music with people who like music. It is a simple equation.
